Terms of service

The terms that govern your use of SickCert. Please read them before applying.

1. The service

SickCert is an online platform that lets adults in Ireland apply for a sick certificate. Applications are reviewed by doctors registered with the Irish Medical Council, who decide — in their independent clinical judgement — whether a certificate is appropriate.

SickCert is not an emergency service and does not replace your GP. If you need urgent medical care, call 999 or 112.

2. Eligibility

You must be 18 or older, located in Ireland, and able to provide accurate information about your health. You must apply for yourself — you cannot apply on behalf of another person.

You agree that all information you provide is true and complete. Providing false information to obtain a medical certificate is a serious matter and may result in your application being declined and your account closed.

3. Clinical decisions

A certificate is issued only when the reviewing doctor considers it clinically appropriate. Submitting an application and paying the fee does not guarantee a certificate.

The doctor may decline an application, or recommend that you seek in-person care. Clinical decisions are made solely by the reviewing doctor and cannot be overridden by SickCert staff.

4. Payments and refunds

Each application requires payment of a flat fee, shown before you pay. Prices are in euro and include any applicable taxes.

If your application is declined on clinical grounds, the fee is refunded in full to your original payment method. Refunds are not available where a certificate has been issued, or where an application was declined because of false or misleading information.

5. Certificates and verification

Issued certificates are delivered to your SickCert account and carry a unique verification code so third parties, such as your employer, can confirm authenticity.

You must not alter, forge, or misuse a certificate. Doing so may be a criminal offence and will result in immediate account closure.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service, attempt to access other people's records, interfere with the platform's security, or use the service for any unlawful purpose.

7. Liability

We provide the platform with reasonable care and skill. Clinical services are provided by the reviewing doctors, who exercise independent professional judgement.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Irish law, including your statutory consumer rights.

8. Changes and contact

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, and continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

Questions about these terms can be sent to support@sickcert.ie.
